'THE DISH'

The Dish

One of my favorite movies is
'The Dish',
starring Sam Neill.
Having seen the movie,
and knowing it was 'based on a true story',
fuelled my anticipation to visit
the actual radio telescope
in Parkes, NSW.
Imagine my surprise,
when we entered the information area,
to find that the story was doctored
to create a better movie.
I see now that Hollywood takes some license
with 'true stories' to get bigger crowds
to the cinemas.
However, this does not make me like
the movie any less;
it is still a must-see.

So, what did I find out, you ask?
I found out that, yes,
there were high winds in Parkes
at the time of the moon landing,
but that there was not a blackout.
Parkes did have 5 back-up generators
at the time.
The blackout was fabricated for the movie.
